The Return of Cyberpope Moses
Back in 2002, I got what I claimed as “The Worst Present Ever” in a family Secret Santa gift exchange – a small figurine of Moses, complete with tablets. I have absolutely no history of religious interest, Moses isn’t really related to Christmas in the first place, and well … I couldn’t explain it. I wasn’t really heavily invested in the exchange though, so I took it home more amused than anything.
I posted about it on the Something Awful Forums and after a bit of back-and-forth I messed about with ideas for dressing up the figure, modifying it maybe … and in the process broke off its upward-pointing fingertip. I replaced this finger with a small metal screw and that got me on a “cyber-Moses” tangent. I threw a BNC connector on its head, wrapped it in a tinfoil robe … and Cyberpope Moses I was born. It all could have stopped there and I’d never have thought of it again.
It did not stop there.
What happened was that I borrowed a bunch of toys from my then two-year-old child, and I started making a comic strip and posting it in installments. It’s been offline for at least a decade or more now, and while I am reasonably sure I have copies of the original Photoshop files on an old hard drive in a box somewhere, I was never sure if I’d be able to read that disk or see it all again. Then today I found an archived copy of an old version of my website that I thought I’d just trashed.

I don’t really recall why I took a break and did a weird meta-episode here. I think it was about this point that I started actually storyboarding each episode instead of winging it. I had readers by this time, and I started feeling a sense of obligation.

… and there we have the conclusion of “Volume 1”. I did have a vague plan for a Barbie-as-Satan second volume but I think we’d reached the end of the holiday period, I had to go back to work and my dear child wanted the toys back. I always did have revisiting it in the back of my mind, and made a few other bits and pieces with Moses and Jesus that I might post at some point.
You also have to take into consideration that I am a wee bit of a hoarder, and I rarely throw anything away.
